What is “VECTORING”?

In this context it means “to direct to a guided point.”

The classes on this page help students

 discover potential career “points”

and then aim towards them.

Best wishes to all you high schoolers as you

navigate these exciting years and chart your futures!

How Students Go to Class

  • Classes are taught in a “hybrid” environment of online students using Zoom combined simultaneously with in-person (post-coronavirus) students and teacher in a physical Zoom Room. Students identify online/in-person preferences on their registration forms.
  • "Zoom Room” advanced technology, including a large collaborative electronic touch whiteboard and classroom camera views, gives all students a more engaging classroom experience than just the typical Zoom meeting.
Vectoring
  • If any course ends up being fully on-line, instruction still originates from the Zoom Room for a better student learning experience. Classes are recorded and promptly available for student viewing as needed.
  • Location of In-Person Classes  (Different from Business Office Location): The in-person Zoom Room is located in the Clear Lake Area of Houston off Bay Area Boulevard near University of Houston Clear Lake.  FYI - those with dog allergies should avoid in-person classes due to happy golden retrievers!
Weekly Schedule
  • Vectoring courses typically meet once a week.
  • Careers & ACT/SAT Strategies – 14 weeks long and are aligned with the standard fall & spring semesters – see Academic Calendar.  The strategies class is a required prerequisite for any of the "Countdown to ..." classes.  Periodically, the strategies class my be offered in a compressed format with the same total number of class hours.
  • Countdown to … Classes - run for 8 school weeks before a targeted formal test date AND ALSO INCLUDE 3 separate individual tutoring sessions. Students can use the tutoring sessions at any available time, including before or after the course, and can use them for any vectoring related topic!
  • Because these are supplementary courses that must fit around core classes and other high priority commitments, the weekly class day/time for any vectoring course is established based on the schedules of students requesting them once a minimum class size is reached. Classes can meet weeknights or weekends if students prefer. Payment is due when a specific day/time is established.
  • Students’ requests determine which subset of the listed vectoring classes are offered each semester. So, the earlier students make requests, the better, to ensure the desired course is chosen and scheduled to meet specific preferences.
  • In the event an insufficient number of students request a given “Countdown to ...” course to form a class, the course can be replaced with individual tutoring sessions (see tutoring page).
  • Each complimentary seminar is held approximately once a semester and announced at a later date.

When specific days/times are decided for vectoring courses, the information will be posted here.

Vectoring for College Established Course Days/Times:

    - ACT/SAT Strategies (Special Compressed Version):  1:00 to 4:00 on 7/27, 7/31, 8/3, 8/5, 8/7, 8/12, 8/14.  Total = 21 hours.  Class recording will be available.

Yearly Academic Calendar

  • July 12: Registration (all online) begins. Registered students are given information for purchasing specific textbooks and installing and exploring the free electronic tools needed for courses
  • Key Dates by Vectoring Course: See table below.  Specific class meeting times are TBD until set by students' preferences. When the days/times are determined, they will be posted in the Weekly Schedule column to the left.

** NOTE:  The ACT/SAT Strategies course is a prerequisite for any "Countdown to ..." class. Yes, it really is.  ?  You'll learn a ton!
  • * RESERVE Weeks for Careers & Strategies Classes: In true NASA fashion, and due to many lessons learned the last several years, the semester calendar automatically includes “reserve” schedule weeks for the full semester classes: 1 week for full fall semester classes and 2 weeks for full spring semester classes. So, while there are 14 weeks of classes, there are 15 available school weeks (excluding holiday weeks) in the fall calendar and 16 in the spring calendar. These reserve weeks are included in anticipation of unexpected events such as power outages, storm evacuations, teacher illness, etc.
  • UNUSED RESERVE Weeks for Careers & Strategies Classes: If the reserve weeks are not needed, the semester ends 1 to 2 weeks earlier than originally planned. (Snow days at the end of the semester!)
  • Should a group class be cancelled for a scheduled "Countdown to ..."  course, the missed class can be converted to an additional individual tutoring session at the student’s time preference if needed.
